Privacy Policy

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your username and email address. You may also add a profile photo and a short bio. Passwords are stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider; we never see them in plain text.

Contributions. When you add a trace, write a story, upload a photo, or edit existing content, we store that content together with your username so the community can credit contributions. Content you publish in the app is public by design.

Location data. When you add a trace or use features such as "show traces near me", the app may access your device location. Location is used only for the feature you invoked. With your permission, we may store the coordinates of a trace you place on the map — this is part of the public content, not your personal location history.

Activity data. We store in-app activity such as traces you have visited or saved, badges earned, and points accumulated, to power your profile and the gamification features.

Technical data. Like most apps, we collect standard technical logs (device type, operating system, app version, crash reports) to keep the app working and to diagnose problems.

• To operate the app and display the community map, traces, stories and photos;
• To create and maintain your account and profile;
• To credit your contributions and track badges, levels and points;
• To send you service-related notifications (for example, updates about your contributions);
• To detect abuse, moderate content and enforce our Terms of Use;
• To fix bugs and improve the app's performance and features.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

The app relies on a small number of service providers to function: a hosting and database provider that stores app data, an authentication provider, map imagery providers for map display, and app distribution platforms. These providers process data only on our behalf. If you sign in through a third-party service (such as Apple or Google), that provider handles the authentication and shares only the information you approve.

Traces, stories, photos, edits and usernames you contribute are published on the community map and can be viewed by anyone with the app or website. Please do not post personal information about yourself or others that you would not want publicly visible. Once published, content may be retained as part of the community record even if you later close your account (see section 6).

The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

You may delete individual contributions from the app at any time. You may request deletion of your account from within the app or by contacting us. When your account is deleted, your username and personal profile are removed. Community contributions (traces, stories, photos) may be retained in anonymized form so that the shared map remains complete; where the law requires otherwise, we will honor your request.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We respond to verified requests within the timeframes required by applicable law (including the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act, where applicable).

We use industry-standard measures — encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access controls — to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so please also use a strong, unique password and let us know immediately if you notice a problem.

We may update this Privacy Policy as the project evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app and update the "last updated" date above.
