Terms of Use

Armenian Traces is a community-built map of places, buildings, monuments, food and people connected to Armenian history. Content is contributed by users like you and may contain errors, omissions or incomplete research. The project is open: contributions are encouraged, and contributors are credited as co-authors of the project.

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) to create an account.

You retain ownership of the stories, photos and edits you contribute. By submitting content, you grant Armenian Traces and its users a worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license to host, display, distribute and adapt that content as part of the community map — including in future versions of the app, the website and related open datasets. You confirm that:

• You own the content or have the right to share it, including photos you upload;
• You have the right to share photos of people appearing in them, and any location information;
• The content is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and you will not submit content you know to be false;
• You attribute sources where you use them, and respect the copyright of archives and other authors.

You agree not to:

• Post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, defamatory, obscene or discriminatory;
• Post spam, advertising, or content unrelated to Armenian history and traces;
• Deliberately falsify traces, stories, dates or locations;
• Impersonate other people or contributors, or misrepresent authorship;
• Attempt to access, scrape or disrupt the service in ways that violate these terms or applicable law;
• Use the map or data for purposes harmful to the community or to people mentioned in the content.

We may remove content, revoke badges and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules. If content is disputed, community moderators may review and correct it.

Badges, levels and points are a fun way to recognize community contributions. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought, sold or transferred, and confer no rights beyond recognition within the app. We may change how badges and levels are earned, and may revoke them in cases of abuse.

Historical research evolves, and community contributions may be incomplete or mistaken. Historical descriptions, dates and locations in the app are provided for general information only and should not be treated as authoritative academic sources. When visiting real-world locations, respect local laws, private property, religious sites and memorial sites.

The Armenian Traces name, logo, design and software are protected by their respective rights. User contributions are licensed as described in section 3. Map imagery and other third-party data displayed in the app remain subject to the terms of their providers.

The app and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or availability. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any trace is accurate, safe to visit, or open to the public.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Armenian Traces project and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including travel to or reliance on any trace, location or story. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, or if we discontinue the service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including licenses of contributed content, disclaimers and limitation of liability) will survive.

We may update these Terms of Use as the project evolves. We will notify you of material changes in the app, and continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
